In light of the latest string of social injustices in the “United States” some new voices have rose up. Thunderous, meaningful and sincere, more professional athletes than ever before have had enough and have spoken out against the injustices. Some have even spoken out against teammates that seem to be blinded by the all mighty white privelge.
Some of these new, powerful voices have been on the front lines, protesting, demostrating, letting their voices be heard and their powerful images seen world wide.
Global sports legend and NBA icon Michael Jordan, who long had shied away from any social stand, pledge his support by announcing that he’d donate upwards of 100 million dollar for various minority foundations.
As one writer of The Hardwood Nation put it, I’ve never seen support like this before.
There’s no doubt that we are living in the middle of a monumental movement, one that hopefully won’t end until concrete, long lasting results are acquired.
As an African American man, a black man, a father of a black son, a proud member of ADOS (google it), I have a question. For the last week this question has been on my mind and it’s compelled me to speak out.
Hatred be damned! This question is burning at my soul and with every passing day, with every athlete I see on the front lines, the flame of the question that burns at my soul grows warmer, larger, and engulfing.
I must ask, I have to ask, fuck the consequences as I need to know.
Where is LeBron James……..
We’re all adults here, I know what you’re going to say.
But wait C.L., LeBron James tweeted!!!!!!!!!
Yeah yeah yeah you’re right, he’s been tweeting and a lot may I add but…..
Where is LeBron James? I mean I get it, he did wear a shirt supporting Eric Garner for a few games but….
I mean I’m still waiting, has anyone seen James on the front lines?
Does LeBron hear you, see you or stand with you, or does his “image” trump all?
It seems as if he’s missing in action but if you find him please let me know. Quite honestly LeBron James hasn’t spoken out meaningfully on any social issue since he totally and absurdly missed the mark with his comments on China in 2019. Have we forgotten that already?
Lets not forget that James picks and chooses when he wants to be vocal about social issues. Lets not forget the Tamir Rice incident where James mostly took the high road when that young man was killed not a far distance from James’ old neighborhood.

“To be honest, I haven’t really been on top of this issue. So it’s hard for me to comment. I understand that any lives that [are] lost, what we want more than anything is prayer and the best for the family, for anyone,” James told reporters. “But for me to comment on the situation, I don’t have enough knowledge about it.”
Samaria Rice, the mother of the boy, expressed her disappointment. Even black activists demanded more from James. Black journalists challenged him to say something substantial. But that’s where the outrage stopped — at the feet of black folks who wanted him to use his platform to defend a child who was killed miles from James’ old neighborhood.
I’m sure he hasn’t and that’s why we haven’t heard from him now. Leave it to him to always try to protect his brand as countless of other athletes are on the front lines and are not hiding behind twitter fingers. Currently he’s the most influential voice of them all but he’s seemingly hiding in a bunker somewhere while the protestors are outside letting their powerful voices be heard. Where are you LeBron James when your people need your voice the most…..I’ll wait
Stay safe fam, I support you all.
