With the New York Knicks expected to have approximately $26 million to spend in this upcoming free-agency, and with the 4th pick in this year’s NBA Draft, there is nothing but question marks surrounding next season’s Knicks team. When it comes to the draft, the Knicks are expected to shop the pick if their top 3 selections are off the board. Those players are Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns, Duke’s Jahlil Okafor, and Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell. With that being said, the Knicks draft selection will depend on the three teams drafting ahead of them. If one of those three teams decide to do the unexpected and draft the likes of Emmanuel Mudiay of China, or even the 7-foot Power Forward from Latvia, Kristaps Porzingis, it will be easy for the Knicks to pull the trigger on whoever is left of the “Big 3” of this year’s draft.
There are too many questions to answer in regards to free-agency. Does anybody want to play for the Knicks? Do players want to play alongside Carmelo Anthony? Do players believe the triangle offense simply does not work in today’s fast-paced style of play? Who knows? I sure don’t. LaMarcus Aldridge, Marc Gasol, and Paul Millsap headline this year’s free agent class. And of course, none of those players are expected to sign with New York. Just their luck. But of course, expect them to be chased. The Knicks are expected to be serious players for Greg Monroe, DeMarre Carroll, and Tobias Harris. And believe it or not Knicks fans, expect your team not take as many drastic changes as people are making it sound. They still need bench players, you know. The draft is less than a week away, and free-agency begins July 1st. Nothing is a sure thing until those dates pass us by. All we can do is make our assumptions, and go on with our day.
