ICYMI: Amar’e joins Dallas

In the midst of the final year of a $99.7 million contract, the New York Knicks chose to buyout the contract of former All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire.  After his superb start in 2010 with the Knicks, his production fell off partly due to injury. He often stated he lost motivation while in New York.

After Stoudemire cleared waivers, he joined the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs were in dire need for a reliable big to back up Tyson Chandler.  The Mavericks had been linked to free agent Jermaine O’Neal who recently decided against returning to the NBA at this time.  Dallas hopes that Amar’e is the answer as the Western Conference race gets tighter down the stretch.  The risk was worth taking due to Stoudemire only earning $500,000 from the franchise.

“I’m excited to be a part of a first-class organization,” Stoudemire said. “To play alongside Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler and other great players, I think it’s a tremendous opportunity for me to compete for a championship.”
