Hope for A Fractured NBA?

“No more smiling faces with hidden agendas.”

Pat Riley

If only that were true….being silent truly is being complicit.

The voices could be heard grumbling in social circles over the course of the last couple of weeks but isn’t that how most movements begin?

A quiet storm of NBA voices who weren’t comfortable with the Nation Basketball Players Association (NBPA) vote to agree with the owners of the league and resume play.  Throughout the last six days the wave has grown larger and larger as more players have spoken out against playing in the proposed NBA bubble in Orlando beginning the end of July.

NBA pundits keep continue to spread the message that Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James wants to play but the normal man has heard nothing but silence.  The voice for playing are currently being drowned out by the growing numbers of players who have concerns about playing.

NBA voices such as Damian Lillard, Carmelo Anthony, Avery Bradley, Dwight Howard and Kyrie Irving have all publicly expressed their concerns and have questioned the status quo.

Is it appropriate to play with the Covid-19 pandemic?

Is it appropriate to play with the multitude of social injustices happening across the United States?

Can one play and at the same time high the need to social reform, voting reform and police reform?

All of the above our valid questions as the eyes on the world will shine on Orlando should the NBA season restart.
