Brooklyn Nets G Kyrie Irving led a players only conference which featured players from the NBA and WNBA to address concerns of the NBA relaunching and beginning play at the Walt Disney resort in Orlando Florida.
Rumors swirled throughout the day Friday that up to 150 players and then even 200 players would be on the call. As the smoke settled that wasn’t the case with only around 80 players being on said call.
Alongside of Irving was Players Association President Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony. According to reports Kyrie Irving stated the following on the call:
“I don’t support going into Orlando. I’m not with the systematic racism and the bullshit. Something smells a little fishy…..I’m willing to give up everything I have (for social reform).”
With that said Irving did indicate however that he would fall in line with the NBPA should all parties agree to indeed play in Orlando once the season is slated to relaunch in late July.
